WHY DO WE HOLD A CREATIVE STARTUP EUROPE AWARDS?

The current cultural world is constantly changing. The economic crisis of 2008 has carried out a social-cultural state of trance, which implies a continuous pursuit for new identities. As a result, the search for a professional position in the cultural field has become a difficult task within the last few years. In the Eurozone, the unemployment rate related to arts has raised up to 22,39%.

The creative and cultural professionals must show now more than ever a clear concern about responding to the call of that change. As Andy Warhol said once: “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” We live in a time demanding for new projects and renewals.

The entrepreneurship activity in Europe has raised up to 8%, a figure which slowly approaches the USA, a country in which entrepreneurship reaches the 12% of the commercial activity. The SEA rely on the potential of Europe and its entrepreneurs, willing to bring the focus and reconnaissance on them and their activity.

The Creative category of the SEA is addressed to professionals on the field of culture and creativity. Concretely, the focus lies on those entrepreneurs who have a project on the field of visual arts, performing arts, architecture, audio-visuals, literature, music, design and fashion, among others.

These awards have as objective the support of the entrepreneurs in the field of culture in order to boost their efforts in a crucial moment, since globalization and consumerism are diminishing identity signs that come along with culture. Furthermore, the search for innovation and creativity will be promoted in order to get culture further than just post-modern parameters.

AIM:

The aim of these awards is to reward the best startups working on cultural and creative projects in its broadest sense (visual arts, architecture, audio-visuals, literature, music, design and fashion), taking into consideration the originality of the project and its subsequent implementation. Moreover, the project must pursue a transnational geographical dimension, successfully reaching a European or even global dimension.

CRITERIA:

The most important eligibility criteria are the following:

Originality: the project must be considered innovative in a broad sense, that is, that this characteristic must be clearly present in any of the fundamental stages of the development process.

Cultural compromise: the proposal must be specifically conceived and oriented for the cultural interest.

Impact: the project must be conceived with the aim of having a great impact and multiplying its results.

Sustainability: it has to be sustainable from an environmental, social and economic point of view.

Human resources: capacities, integration and skills.
